The addition of the string section in songs like “Through the Ghost” prove to be a huge benefit to the band. Although he has been given solos in previous albums, he has many in “Amaryllis,” and his abilities are brilliantly showcased. Guitarist Zach Myers proves he has a true talent in the solos he is given in this album. Although none of the songs showcase his vocal abilities as well as they could, what is seen from him is certainly compelling. Despite the changes, the band still remains an easily recognizable rock band, so the minds of those who may worry about Shinedown going too mainstream can be put at ease.īrent Smith’s voice is stronger than ever on the new album and shows no signs of letting up. Similar to “Second Chance” from their last album which became popular with fans of all different styles of music songs like “Unity” seem to be able to grab the attention of many. On the album, there are a few tracks that could also convert to pop radio. This song should be a sure hit for Shinedown because of bullying’s current prominence around the country. Lyrics such as “make another joke while they hang another rope” seem harsh, but at the same time send a strong message of how pressing the issue is. “Bully,” hits home with many fans that have been bullied in the past or are having problems with bullies in their lives now. The song talks about the dangers of bullying as well as how it can lead to devastating results. Shinedown tackles the wide spread issue of bullying in one of their songs on the new album. With this release, fans were finally able to see if the group could top their last album, the “Sound Of Madness.” The group is known for their ability to approach touchy topics in their songs that others may be afraid to speak of, and they do not stray from this in their latest album, “Amaryllis.” Shinedown is also known for putting out music that is approachable to the masses, but still attracts the dedicated rocker fans.
